A 48-year-old man was shot by Midt- and West Zealand Police on Saturday evening in an area north of Asnæs, near Odsherred. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 PM after police responded to concerns that the man intended to commit suicide.

The man was struck by the gunfire and transported to a hospital for medical care. His current condition is unknown.

According to initial reports from the Midt- and West Zealand Police, the man had earlier struck a police patrol car. Several patrols were dispatched to the location. A dog patrol unit initially made contact with the man’s vehicle, at which point the man allegedly struck the dog patrol in an attempt to flee. Shortly thereafter, another patrol encountered the man’s car, and the shooting ensued immediately. Preliminary information suggests the man drove towards the patrol car, prompting the officers to discharge their weapons.
