Police Seek Witnesses to Fatal Train Accident Near Kliplev

South and Sønderjylland Police are appealing to two potential witnesses following a deadly accident involving a van and a train at an unguarded railway crossing near Kliplev, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old man. The incident occurred on Kådnervej, south of Aabenraa.

The police are specifically looking to speak with a man and a woman who were present at the accident site around 7 p.m. These individuals reportedly spoke Danish with a German accent. They left the scene before officers could gather information from them.

Authorities are urging the pair to come forward and contact the police immediately by calling 114.

The collision involved a van with a trailer and an InterCityLyn train carrying 60 passengers from Copenhagen to Sønderborg. Miraculously, no one on the train sustained any injuries.

The accident has caused significant disruption to rail services in the area. Trains are currently suspended between Tinglev and Sønderborg, with replacement buses operating to transport passengers. DSB deployed personnel to the scene to assist customers and employees affected by the disruption.

The Accident Investigation Board has been notified and will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. The deceased man’s family has been informed of the tragic event.

Police indicated that they would continue working at the scene for several hours following the accident, which occurred at approximately 6:57 p.m.
