The South and Southern Jutland Police are still seeking witnesses to a fatal accident involving a van and a train at a railway crossing in Kliplev, despite contacting two individuals initially thought to have been present at the scene. The accident, which resulted in the death of a 24-year-old man, occurred on Kådnervej, south of Aabenraa, when his van collided with a train at a crossing without barriers.
Authorities clarified that the man and woman they contacted only arrived after the collision. This development underscores the continuing need for individuals who witnessed the accident or possess relevant information to come forward.
The investigation has revealed concerning details about the railway crossing. A new bell had been installed just a day before the accident to replace a previously stolen one. Banedanmark confirmed that this replacement bell also disappeared before the fatal incident.
While Banedanmark does not consider bell theft a widespread issue nationwide, it has been a problem in Southern Jutland. The company is exploring solutions to deter future thefts, acknowledging the metal value of the bells as a potential motive.
