Planetarium Reinvents Itself with New Space Exhibition

Copenhagen’s Planetarium has undergone a significant transformation, shifting its focus from traditional space technology displays to a more holistic exploration of the universe and humanity’s connection to it. The newly revamped institution aims to inspire wonder and understanding of the cosmos, addressing fundamental questions about our existence and place in the universe.

The Planetarium’s updated approach is evident in its new exhibition, “Space t/r,” which moves away from a purely technological perspective on space exploration. The exhibition delves into the human element of space travel, exploring the motivations behind our quest to explore the cosmos and the impact of space exploration on our lives.

“Space t/r” features a range of engaging exhibits, including video lectures from scientists, artists, psychologists, and theologians, addressing profound questions about the universe. Visitors can also experience what it’s like to float in the International Space Station and learn about the life of an astronaut through films created by Andreas Mogensen.

The exhibition also highlights the importance of satellites in our daily lives and the growing problem of space debris. Technological advancements spurred by space travel are showcased, along with 3D animations of spacesuits and the discovery of new planets.

The Planetarium’s redesigned space is effectively utilized, creating a cohesive and visually appealing environment that blends art, science, and technology. Visitors can participate in interactive experiences, such as launching a SpaceX rocket, and contemplate thought-provoking questions about the ownership of outer space and the ethical implications of space technology.

While the exhibition generally receives high praise, some minor criticisms have been raised regarding the inclusion of “trigger warnings” and philosophical dilemmas that may limit open discussion. Despite these minor shortcomings, “Space t/r” offers a captivating and thought-provoking experience that successfully conveys the Planetarium’s new vision.
