Pia Kjærsgaard Prepares for Crisis with Water and Everyday Essentials

Pia Kjærsgaard, a veteran Danish politician, emphasizes the importance of being prepared for crises by storing essential supplies like water and maintaining a sense of normalcy. She highlights the need for a balanced approach, advocating for preparedness without instilling fear. Kjærsgaard’s approach focuses on readily available resources and practical measures, rather than extreme stockpiling.

Kjærsgaard has taken steps to prepare for potential disruptions by storing over 60 liters of tap water, utilizing a rainwater barrel, and acquiring items like a camping stove and emergency radio. These measures align with the Danish authorities’ recommendations for citizens to be self-sufficient for three days in a crisis. She also mentioned stocking up on dog food for her wire-haired dachshund Sonja.

Despite the authorities’ recommendations, a recent poll indicates that only a third of Danes have followed the advice to prepare for emergencies. Kjærsgaard views preparedness as an extension of normal household practices, suggesting that simple steps like buying extra toilet paper or freezing extra portions of food can make a significant difference. She also criticized Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen for what she perceives as fear-mongering rhetoric regarding geopolitical issues, advocating for a more balanced approach that allows room for “hope” and “joy.”

Kjærsgaard stresses the importance of maintaining calm and everyday life amidst global challenges. She acknowledged the serious issues facing the world, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, but emphasized the need to avoid living in constant fear. Her approach to preparedness is practical and grounded in common sense, focusing on readily available resources and simple measures that can help Danes cope with potential disruptions.
