Pearl Jam’s Drummer Matt Cameron Announces Departure

Matt Cameron, the longtime drummer for Pearl Jam, has announced his departure from the band after 27 years. The announcement was made by Pearl Jam on Monday via a post on Instagram. The band expressed their gratitude and respect for Cameron’s contributions.

The reason for Cameron’s departure remains unclear. Cameron joined Pearl Jam in 1998, becoming their longest-serving drummer.

The band members expressed their appreciation for Cameron’s impact. “He has driven the last 27 years of live shows and studio recordings for Pearl Jam,” the band wrote, emphasizing the importance of his role. “It has been an incredibly important chapter for our group, and we always wish him all the best. He will be deeply missed and is forever our friend within art and music.”

While expressing their gratitude, the band did not reveal if a replacement drummer has been selected.

In 2000, Cameron was with Pearl Jam when they performed at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, where a tragic incident occurred, resulting in nine fatalities due to crowd pressure.

The band addressed the tragedy in their 2002 album “Riot Act,” with the song “Love Boat Captain” referencing the loss. Roskilde Festival has since acknowledged the event as one of the darkest chapters in its history.
