Paprika Steen’s “The New Year” Selected for Zurich Film Festival

Paprika Steen’s film, “The New Year,” has been selected for the Zurich International Film Festival and will have its world premiere at the Swiss festival. The film is a comedy-drama centered around a New Year’s Eve celebration.

The movie focuses on four friends and their children as they gather to celebrate the holiday. The arrival of a new girlfriend within the group introduces changes to their established dynamics.

Producer Mikael Rieks stated that the selection is well-deserved, recognizing Paprika Steen’s prominence in Danish cinema. He expressed pride in the film and excitement to present it to a global audience.

The cast includes Lars Brygmann, Anders W. Berthelsen, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Christian Tafdrup, Solbjørg Højfeldt, Tuva Novotny, Daniel Andreas Ørum-Hansen, and Nikoline Juul Rohold.

Steen, known for her acting roles in films like “Festen,” “Den eneste ene,” and “Applaus,” has also directed “Den tid på året” and “Fædre og mødre.” “The New Year” explores the theme of chosen communities, following her previous examinations of compulsory communities in her earlier films.

“The New Year” is scheduled to premiere in Danish cinemas on November 6th.
