No Political Support in Danish Parliament to Stop Arms Trade with Israel

A motion to halt all direct and indirect arms trade between Denmark and Israel, including the F-35 collaboration, lacks sufficient political backing in the Danish Parliament. The government, the Denmark Democrats, and the Liberal Alliance have all declared their opposition to the proposal.

The motion, which arose after a citizen proposal rapidly gained 50,000 signatures, was debated in Parliament. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already intensified its regulations on arms exports to Israel, adopting a highly restrictive approach.

Rasmussen added that Denmark’s export control practices, including those related to the F-35 program, are believed to be compliant with EU legal and international obligations. This also applies to the legal framework governing the handling of US-owned F-35 spare parts.

The Ministry of Defense has also determined that there is no justification for a blanket exclusion of Israeli suppliers when the Danish Armed Forces need to procure weaponry in the future.
