Nine men, including two convicted murderers affiliated with the Bandidos motorcycle club, are on trial in Glostrup, Denmark, accused of attempting to murder members of the rival NNV gang. The trial, expected to last 32 days, focuses on incidents that occurred in the first three months of 2021 during a period of conflict between the two groups. A verdict is expected on December 19th.
One of the defendants is Lennart Elkjær, 53, previously convicted of the 2003 murder of former Bandidos member Mickey Borgfjord. During questioning, Elkjær declined to comment on the conflict with NNV.
The prosecution, led by the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK), alleges that Elkjær was a member of a Bandidos group called TCB (Taking Care of Business), which they claim carried out violent acts on behalf of the motorcycle club. The prosecution also noted that members of the group wore a TCB patch on their vests.
Elkjær denies being part of TCB during the time of the alleged attempted murders. He also disputes the prosecution’s interpretation of the TCB patch, claiming it stands for “Taking Care of Brothers” and involves assisting Bandidos members visiting from abroad. His defense lawyer presented pictures showing him without the patch during the relevant period.
Jess Brønnum, another Bandidos member already serving a life sentence for the murder of Cem Kaplan in Hillerød in January 2021, is also among the defendants. Kaplan’s murder is widely seen as the catalyst for the conflict between NNV and Bandidos.
The trial unfolds as the Court in Helsingør deliberates on the future of the Bandidos. A verdict is expected on October 29th in a separate case that will decide whether the organization should be banned.
