Nickolai Lund Appointed Head Coach of Viborg FF After FC København Dismissal

Nickolai Lund has been named the new head coach of Viborg FF, marking a significant step in his career after being dismissed from FC København (FCK) six months prior. The 37-year-old coach’s journey has taken him from women’s football to a prominent role in the Superliga.

Lund’s coaching career began in 2012 with Team Viborg, where he led the women’s team to the league before seeking new opportunities. In 2015, he joined Randers FC as an assistant coach for the club’s U19 team for a single season. Following this, he moved to Silkeborg IF in 2016, serving as an assistant coach for their U19 boys’ team for two seasons.

Lund initially arrived at Viborg FF in 2018, starting in the club’s youth department as the head coach for the U15 boys. His progression led him to the Superliga scene in the summer of 2019, when he was appointed assistant coach under Jacob Neestrup. After Neestrup’s return to FC København in December 2020, Lund briefly took charge of Viborg FF on a temporary basis while the club searched for a new head coach. He then served as an assistant coach under Lars Friis and Jacob Friis.

In the summer of 2023, Jacob Neestrup brought Lund to FC København as an assistant coach. Lund’s tenure at FCK was cut short in early 2025, leading to his return to Viborg FF as an assistant coach for Jakob Poulsen before his recent promotion to head coach.
