A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 79-year-old woman in Nivå, North Zealand Police announced on Tuesday. This development follows the previous arrest and subsequent release of an 82-year-old man in the same case.

The prosecutor for the police district is now seeking a judge’s order to detain the 34-year-old suspect.

The 82-year-old man, who was arrested and charged last week, was initially detained for three days. His detention was extended to allow police time to either confirm or dismiss the suspicion against him, ultimately leading to his release on Saturday.

The 79-year-old woman was reported missing on the weekend of August 30th. A large-scale search operation was then initiated. The search involved police dog patrols, a helicopter, and drones.

The woman’s body was discovered in a wooded area on Monday, September 1st. Police have since confirmed that her death was a result of murder.
