New Strategy for Personalized Medicine Agreed Upon by Government and Danish Regions

The Danish government and the Danish Regions have reached an agreement on a new strategy to advance the use of personalized medicine for individual patients. The initiative aims to tailor treatments more precisely to each person’s unique needs and characteristics.

The strategy, backed by a three-year allocation of DKK 90 million, comprises 13 initiatives designed to enhance patient care through personalized approaches. The goal is to create a framework for future patient treatment that leverages health data for targeted interventions.

Minister for the Interior and Health Sophie Løhde emphasized the importance of recognizing individual differences in healthcare. Løhde stated that the healthcare system must account for variations in personality, genetics, and responses to illness and treatment.

The strategy prioritizes the improved utilization of health data and artificial intelligence. By doing so, the healthcare system can detect diseases at earlier stages. This facilitates the development of individualized treatment plans specifically designed for each patient.

Personalized medicine, for instance, can benefit cancer patients. Genetic analysis will allow patients to receive treatments that are most effective for their specific condition. This approach also aims to prevent patients from undergoing treatments that are ineffective or cause severe side effects.
