The Ministry of Transport is implementing a new order to prevent parking companies from issuing fines via mail without first placing a ticket on the vehicle. This initiative follows concerns raised about automatic fines issued to motorists.
Minister of Transport Thomas Danielsen (V) has sent the order for consultation, as reported by Jyllands-Posten. The core of the new regulation mandates that parking fees must be physically placed on the vehicle or handed directly to the driver. The existing rules allow for fines to be sent by mail or electronically under certain circumstances.
Some parking companies utilize camera systems to monitor parking spaces and automatically issue fines to vehicle owners exceeding the allotted time. These companies reportedly believe the new order could hinder technological advancements.
However, Minister Danielsen refutes this criticism, asserting that the regulation does not preclude technological progress but ensures compliance with established rules. “This does not mean that there can be no technological development from here. But when we have some rules, they must be followed,” the minister stated.
Recent media reports have highlighted instances of motorists disputing automatic parking fines, claiming either no violation occurred or that the fines were issued unfairly. Earlier in the month, Minister Danielsen cautioned parking companies to cease issuing these “invisible fines,” threatening intervention if the practice continued.
