A technical fault in Nets’ systems caused a widespread breakdown on Saturday, severely disrupting card payments across Denmark. The failure impacted various sectors, including transportation and entertainment, leaving many unable to complete transactions.
The disruption prevented motorists from crossing the Great Belt bridge (Storebælt) and halted payments at major events like the Musik i Lejet music festival and Grøn Koncert. The breakdown stemmed from a “component failure” within the card payment company’s core infrastructure, as reported by TV 2.
The component failure also caused the backup system to fail. Nets has ruled out the possibility of external attacks as the cause of the system-wide failure.
