Nets, a payment service provider, experienced a breakdown in its systems on Saturday evening, causing widespread disruptions to card payments across the Nordic region. According to Nets’ press officer, Søren Winge, operations were normalized around 7 PM but with varying effects until 10 PM. The company is still investigating the cause of the breakdown.
The disruption impacted all card types and led to significant issues in Denmark, including long queues and driver frustration at the Great Belt Bridge. South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police reported that staff received death threats related to the payment outage.
Two booms were also forced open, and Sund & Bælt is considering whether to report the drivers behind it to the police. Nets is working to ensure stable operations and analyze the cause of the breakdown to prevent future incidents.
While systems are currently running normally, Nets anticipates that some systems and terminals may still require updates on Sunday. Nets is committed to guiding customers through this process.
