Musik i Lejet, Denmark’s controversial music festival, has relocated to a new site in Vejby, approximately five kilometers from its original location in Tisvildeleje. The move follows years of disputes between festival organizers and some local residents who felt the event had outgrown its previous location and caused too much noise and environmental disruption.
The relocation has allowed the festival to expand, selling 4,000 more tickets than the previous year. Despite the change in venue, the festival still boasts a diverse music program and a festive atmosphere.
However, some festival-goers express disappointment with the new location. Many attendees feel that the new site lacks the charm and unique atmosphere of the original location by the beach. The absence of the beach and forest proximity is a significant loss for some long-time festival attendees.
The festival’s relocation has also highlighted deep divisions within the Tisvildeleje community. The dispute, documented in a TV 2 series called “The Battle of Tisvilde,” has even affected relationships between local children.
Despite the controversy, organizers and supporters hope the new location will ultimately benefit the festival and the surrounding area. Some believe the move could offer new opportunities and address some of the concerns raised by local residents.
Meanwhile, in Tisvildeleje, the former festival site is now quiet. The beach and parking lot, once filled with music and crowds, now offer a peaceful retreat for residents and visitors.
