Citizens in Norddjurs Municipality and Nordfyns Municipality averaged the highest number of contacts with their general practitioners in 2024, with 8.3 contacts per person. This is according to a recent report by Statistics Denmark.
The national average for contacts with a general practitioner is 7.2 per citizen. These contacts include physical visits, telephone consultations, video consultations, and e-consultations.
Copenhagen Municipality and Egedal Municipality reported the lowest average number of contacts, with 6.1 and 5.9 contacts per citizen, respectively.
Sampension, a pension company, analyzed the Statistics Denmark data and found that a higher percentage of men than women did not consult a doctor at all last year. Specifically, 28.9 percent of men aged 18-29 had no contact with their general practitioner, compared to 23.8 percent of women in the same age group.
Nicoline Rosenlund, Head of Health at Sampension, stated that this trend is consistent across different age groups. She emphasized the concern that men are less likely to seek medical attention than women, contributing to higher mortality rates and shorter lifespans among men.
Rosenlund added that failing to seek timely medical help for potentially serious symptoms can have fatal consequences and reduce lifespan. Sampension’s own data reflects this pattern, with women utilizing their health insurance more frequently than men.
Rosenlund suggested that one reason for this difference is that men are more inclined to believe they can handle health issues independently and are hesitant to share their health concerns.
