A 42-year-old motorcyclist from Helsingør was critically injured in a head-on collision in North Zealand late Saturday night. The accident occurred at 9:24 PM on Helsingevej and involved two cars in addition to the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was rushed to Rigshospitalet’s trauma department following the incident. According to North Zealand Police, initial reports indicate that the motorcyclist was traveling behind a car when an oncoming vehicle veered into their lane for reasons yet unknown.
The car in front of the motorcycle swerved to avoid the oncoming vehicle, ending up in a ditch. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the collision and crashed head-on with the oncoming car.
The driver of the car that changed lanes was an 18-year-old man from Græsted. Police are currently investigating the cause of the lane change. There were three occupants in the car that ended up in the ditch, but none sustained injuries.
As of Sunday night, the 42-year-old motorcyclist was the only person reported injured in the accident. All relatives have been notified.
Police will remain at the scene on Helsingevej for several more hours to conduct technical investigations and interview witnesses.
