Møns Klint Added to UNESCO World Heritage List

Møns Klint has been officially designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, according to the Ministry of Culture. This prestigious recognition places the iconic cliffs among a select group of globally significant cultural and natural landmarks.

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, bestows World Heritage status on sites deemed to possess outstanding universal value. With the addition of Møns Klint, the Danish Realm, encompassing Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland, now boasts a total of 11 sites on the World Heritage List.

Other notable sites within the Danish Realm already holding this distinction include: Stevns Klint, Five Danish Viking Age ring fortresses, The Parforce hunting landscape in North Zealand, Christiansfeld, The Danish Wadden Sea, Ilulissat Icefjord in Greenland, Aasivissut – Nipisat (an Inuit hunting landscape in Greenland), Kujataa (a site showcasing Norse and Inuit farming in Greenland), Kronborg Castle, Roskilde Cathedral, and The Jelling Monuments.

Furthermore, the Danish Realm is also represented on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage with the Inuit drum dance in Greenland and the Nordic clinker boat tradition, a collaborative entry with Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland.
