Metal Thefts from Gravesites Plague Esbjerg Municipality

Police in Esbjerg Municipality are urging the public to report any suspicious activity after a series of metal thefts from gravesites at three different cemeteries. Chains, figures, and other metal items have been stolen, causing distress to bereaved families.

The thefts have occurred at Jerne Cemetery, Gravlunden, and Guldager Cemetery near Esbjerg. Authorities are taking the incidents seriously and are investigating all leads to identify the thieves.

Police Commissioner Frederik Nielsen emphasized the emotional impact of these thefts, stating that people expect to be able to leave items at gravesites without fear of them being stolen. He appealed to the public for assistance, encouraging anyone who has observed unusual behavior or found discarded items in the cemeteries to contact the police.

The South and Southern Jutland Police are treating all information received as potentially valuable in their investigation. They encourage residents to report anything that seems out of place, such as individuals acting suspiciously or any unusual objects found near the gravesites.
