Mattias Skjelmose Withdraws from Tour de France After Crash

Mattias Skjelmose, the Danish cyclist for Lidl-Trek, has abandoned the Tour de France after a crash on Saturday. He initially attempted to continue the race, but was forced to stop less than an hour later.

Skjelmose, born Mattias Skjelmose Jensen on September 26, 2000, in Copenhagen, is 24 years old. He is contracted with Lidl-Trek until the end of the 2026 season. He has 13 professional victories to his name.

Among his notable achievements are winning the Amstel Gold Race in 2025 and becoming the Danish time trial champion in 2024. In 2023, he secured a stage win and overall victory at the Tour de Suisse. He also won the Danish road race championship in 2023. Skjelmose’s palmares include an overall win at the Tour de Luxembourg in 2022, and a second-place finish in the Flèche Wallonne.
