Brøndby has finalized the permanent transfer of Polish midfielder Mateusz Kowalczyk to GKS Katowice. The Superliga club announced the move on Monday, confirming that Katowice exercised their option to buy after Kowalczyk’s successful loan spell last summer.
Kowalczyk, 21, joined Brøndby from LKS Lodz in the summer of 2023 on a four-year deal. During his time with Brøndby, he made three brief appearances, totaling only 47 minutes of playing time.
Director of football Benjamin Schmedes acknowledged Kowalczyk’s limited opportunities at Brøndby, stating that he “didn’t get the playing time with us that both we and he had hoped for.”
In contrast, Kowalczyk thrived during his loan to GKS Katowice, playing in 31 games and scoring three goals in the domestic league. Schmedes expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, saying, “Therefore, it also makes good sense that GKS Katowice has exercised its option in the lease agreement for a permanent transfer, and we wish Mateusz all the best for his continued development in GKS Katowice.”
