Man Sentenced to Prison for Defrauding Elderly in Zealand and Lolland

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to six months in prison for defrauding elderly people in Zealand and Lolland, Denmark. He confessed in court on Friday to committing fraud against multiple elderly victims.

The arrest occurred on Thursday in Roskilde when police stopped the 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, finding 30,000 kroner in cash in their car. The man and woman were charged with fraud against 13 elderly individuals in Roskilde, Jyllinge, Greve, Præstø, and Nysted.

The victims collectively lost at least 140,000 kroner. The most recent victims included an 88-year-old man in Jyllinge and an 88-year-old woman in Roskilde.

During the court proceedings, the man from Copenhagen claimed he acted alone. Following his confession, he was released and will be summoned to serve his sentence at a later date, according to the police.

Police investigation leader Rasmus Jensby emphasized the significant insecurity caused by these fraudulent acts, noting that the perpetrators exploit the elderly’s trust in banks and authorities to swindle them out of money and valuables.
