Man Sentenced to Prison and Expulsion for Manslaughter

Milad Sadiqi, a 35-year-old man from Afghanistan, has been sentenced to six years in prison and expulsion from Denmark with a permanent ban on re-entry for negligent manslaughter. The sentence stems from a 2021 incident where Sadiqi ran over and killed Beate Anders, a mother of two, while allegedly under the influence of cannabis and driving without a license.

The court found Sadiqi guilty of deliberately disregarding the safety of others through reckless driving, resulting in imminent danger to the victim’s life. The prosecution initially sought a minimum of seven years in prison and permanent expulsion, while the defense argued for a sentence of four and a half to five years with a time-limited ban on re-entry.

Sadiqi, who was previously sentenced to deportation in 2021 for violent crime but could not be repatriated due to Denmark’s lack of cooperation with the Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, pleaded not guilty to negligent manslaughter. His defense claimed the victim was in the wrong lane, but this was refuted by witness statements and a car inspector’s report.

The defense attorney has stated that Sadiqi will appeal the judgment to the High Court, seeking acquittal on the main charge of negligent manslaughter. In addition to the prison sentence and expulsion, Sadiqi has been ordered to pay 75,000 kroner to each of Beate Anders’ surviving family members.
