A 42-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison and expelled from Denmark with a 12-year entry ban for the abuse of his former wife. The abuse, which included rape, psychological violence, and threats, spanned approximately four years, from early 2018 to August 2022.
The court in Lyngby reached its verdict on Tuesday, according to Special Prosecutor Bente Schnack. The court emphasized the injured woman’s credible testimony, characterizing the case as involving very dangerous criminal acts.
The seven-page indictment details several instances of abuse. In one instance, the man allegedly struck the woman in the face, head, and back while she was pregnant in the fall of 2018. On multiple occasions, the man is accused of threatening the woman’s life, sometimes in the presence of their children. He allegedly said things like, “I will kill you and take your children from you,” or simply, “I will kill you.”
Bente Schnack expressed satisfaction with the verdict, noting that the court found the man guilty on nearly all counts of the indictment. While there were a few individual points where the court did not find sufficient evidence, the man was largely convicted as charged.
