A 29-year-old man with gang ties has been remanded in custody in connection with an arson attack on a restaurant in Copenhagen. The man, who is allegedly associated with the banned gang Loyal To Familia, was arrested on Wednesday evening following what police described as an “intense investigation.”
The arson occurred on the night of Saturday, July 12th, at the Indian Ocean restaurant on Englandsvej. According to the indictment, a window was smashed, and flammable liquid was thrown inside, causing extensive damage.
This is the second arrest in the case. A 17-year-old boy was previously remanded in custody on Wednesday, charged with committing the crime itself. Both the man and the boy have pleaded not guilty.
The 29-year-old man’s imprisonment was ordered for 26 days, with the judge citing concerns that his freedom would obstruct the ongoing police investigation. Several residents of the property were evacuated due to the fire, and the charges include particularly dangerous arson due to the endangerment of human lives.
