Man Pleads Not Guilty to 2017 Rape Charge in Copenhagen

A 42-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to a rape charge stemming from an incident in August 2017. The plea was entered during a preliminary hearing at the Copenhagen City Court.

The man was taken into custody on Monday in a police district outside of Copenhagen. He appeared in court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors requested pre-trial detention.

According to the indictment, the rape is classified as particularly dangerous and involved aggravating circumstances. The indictment alleges that the man physically assaulted the woman, threatening to kill her if she did not comply with his demands.

The accused has declined to comment on the allegations during the court hearing.

The alleged rape occurred on August 3, 2017, in the Amager district. Copenhagen Police reported that the victim was attacked in a basement while walking home from a night out.

Authorities were unable to identify and apprehend a suspect in the immediate aftermath of the 2017 attack.
