A 50-year-old man fatally shot his 42-year-old wife before taking his own life at their home in Allerød on Wednesday evening. North Zealand Police responded to a report from Statenevej in Allerød a little after 10 p.m. and initiated an investigation into what they initially described as a suspicious circumstance.

The police investigation has confirmed that the man used a pistol in the murder-suicide.

Investigators are currently looking into the man’s background, and authorities have confirmed that he was a member of the Home Guard (Hjemmeværnet). As part of their ongoing investigation, police are exploring whether he was also affiliated with any shooting clubs.

While the police are investigating the source of the weapon, they have not yet disclosed whether the pistol was connected to the man’s involvement in the Home Guard.

The couple’s two children are now under the care of social authorities and members of the wife’s family. Authorities have not commented on a potential motive as the investigation remains active.
