Man Dies in Rally Accident on Møn

A 69-year-old man from Kalundborg died on Saturday after being struck by a car during the Nykøbing Falster Motor Sports 75th Anniversary rally in Stege on Møn. The Danish Automobile Sports Union confirmed the fatality in a statement.

The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. on Kong Asgers Vej in Stege during a speed test when a participant lost control of their vehicle and hit two officials. The rally has been stopped and will not resume.

Another official, a 64-year-old man from Vestegnen, was critically injured and airlifted to a hospital for treatment. His condition is critical.

Authorities are investigating the incident as an industrial accident due to its occurrence within a closed-off area permitted for the motor race, according to South Zealand and Lolland Falster Police. A car inspector is also investigating the circumstances.

Morten Alstrup from the Danish Automobile Sports Union stated that the area was closed to other traffic during the speed test. He added that teams and emergency services provided immediate first aid after the collision.

Alstrup estimates that there were over 100 officials present at the rally. The speed tests were planned across 11 asphalted sections totaling 136 kilometers. The tests on Møn had not been conducted since the early 2000s.
