A 21-year-old man, wearing a Danish national team jersey, appeared in Copenhagen City Court on Thursday, facing ten charges related to recruiting individuals for serious violent crimes. He was arrested on Wednesday evening after being extradited from Morocco and has been imprisoned in absentia since November of last year.
The charges against the man, who is protected by a name ban, include offenses under the gang paragraph, indicating police believe the crimes are linked to a conflict between the banned gang Loyal To Familia (LTF) and a group called Unknown Team. The prosecution alleges he advertised and recruited individuals, in association with leading members of Unknown Team, for tasks involving murder, explosions, and shootings last November.
He is also accused of contributing to crimes committed by minors, specifically involving 12 and 17-year-old boys. According to the indictment, he instructed the boys to place a firebomb in front of an entrance in Hellerup and to throw Molotov cocktails at a juice bar on Nørrebro. No one was injured in the firebomb incident.
The 12-year-old boy cannot be prosecuted due to his age, while the 17-year-old has pleaded not guilty to arson. The man’s defense attorney stated that his client pleads not guilty and does not wish to comment.
The court hearing was held behind closed doors at the prosecutor’s request, citing the serious and organized nature of the crime and the possibility of additional accomplices. Heavily armed officers were present at the courthouse.
Following the hearing, the 21-year-old was remanded in custody for 26 days while the police continue their investigation. He is a Danish citizen.
