Mads Hermansen Aims to Become Denmark’s First-Choice Goalkeeper

Mads Hermansen, the reserve goalkeeper for the Danish national team, has voiced his ambition to become the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, challenging veteran Kasper Schmeichel for the coveted position. Hermansen hopes to secure the starting role before the potential World Cup participation next summer.

The Premier League goalkeeper expressed his aspirations during the national team’s initial gathering for the World Cup qualification. He emphasized his dedication to earning the number one spot and his reluctance to settle for a permanent position on the bench.

Hermansen acknowledged the established presence of Kasper Schmeichel and his accomplishments but stressed that no player is guaranteed a place on the team. He recognizes the significance of performing consistently at his club, West Ham, to enhance his chances of representing the national team.

The 25-year-old’s summer transfer from Leicester to West Ham was a strategic move to ensure regular playing time in a top league. He believes that consistent appearances in the Premier League will significantly increase his opportunities to be selected for the national team.

Hermansen also addressed a missed opportunity to debut for the national team in a test match against Northern Ireland due to an injury. He clarified that he used the time to undergo a groin operation that would benefit him in the long term.

Upon returning to West Ham after the World Cup qualifier in Greece, Hermansen will resume training under goalkeeping coach Casper Ankergren. Ankergren, who played a key role in Hermansen’s transfer to West Ham, has instilled confidence in the goalkeeper’s ability to compete for playing time.
