Large Wildfire in Skagen Klitplantage Extinguished

The large wildfire that broke out in Skagen Klitplantage a little over a week ago has been extinguished, according to Nordjyllands Beredskab. This will allow the airspace over the affected area to reopen on Tuesday at 12:00 PM.

Emergency services are in the process of leaving the area on Tuesday morning, meaning the public can now move freely within the area. The presence of emergency services has been scaled down over the past few days, with the remaining 15 firefighters being sent home on Tuesday.

Jan Nedza, head of emergency preparedness at Nordjyllands Beredskab, stated that no fire has been detected in the past 24 hours during overflights with thermal drones or patrols, leading to the assessment that the fire is extinguished. While acknowledging the possibility of undetected embers, he affirmed that the situation is under control.

At the height of the firefighting efforts, over 100 emergency services personnel were on site.

The fire, which was reported last Monday shortly before 2:00 PM, affected approximately 27 hectares near Den Tilsandede Kirke (The Sand-Covered Church). No immediate injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Nordjyllands Politi (North Jutland Police) is investigating the cause of the fire. As of Saturday, there was no new information regarding the cause, and police had not received any inquiries from the public despite urging citizens to report any relevant observations. Jan Nedza stated that he has no indication of the cause of the fire.
