A large fire that erupted at a car dismantling facility north of Ølstykke, North Zealand, on Wednesday afternoon has been brought under control by firefighters. The fire, which produced heavy smoke, prompted warnings for nearby residents to take precautions.
Firefighters are still on-site conducting mopping-up operations, including the bicycle path, and expect to complete their work Thursday morning. The North Zealand Police reported early Thursday morning that the fire was under control.
The fire was reported on Wednesday at 4:15 PM. Authorities had blocked Roskildevej between Birkemosen and Sperrestrupvej in both directions due to the fire, but the road reopened at 2:47 AM on Thursday.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. While the fire was active, residents living southeast of the site who could smell smoke were advised by police to keep doors and windows closed and turn off ventilation systems.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
