Kristoffer Wichmann, AaB’s head coach, has left the club after just 33 days following their relegation to the 1st division. Despite the short and turbulent period, Wichmann expressed no regrets in an open letter to the club’s fans.
Wichmann stated he took the job with full awareness and dedication, emphasizing he would do it again without hesitation. He replaced bitterness and disappointment with pride and gratitude.
His departure follows the firing of sports director James Gow shortly after the relegation. The club has experienced further upheaval, with chairman Jan Peters resigning after significant protests. The German ownership group, Sports Strategy Excellence 22, has announced its withdrawal from daily operations and involvement.
While Wichmann’s letter doesn’t directly address the turmoil, he maintains that AaB “belongs on the top shelf in Danish football.” He hinted at disagreements with superiors, noting the cost of standing firm when representing a region’s history and future aspirations.
AaB is currently without a sports director or head coach. Jesper Brøchner Thing has been nominated as the new chairman and will be voted on at an upcoming extraordinary general meeting.
