The release of the photo precedes the King’s appearance on the balcony of Frederik VIII’s Palace in Copenhagen, where he will greet well-wishers. The Royal House frequently shares photographs to mark the birthdays of members of the Royal Family.

This practice of releasing photos for royal birthdays isn’t new. Last year, when Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine turned 13, a photo was initially presented as “new” but was later clarified as “a picture was released.”
