King Frederik and Queen Mary concluded their late summer cruise on Thursday by learning about Samsø’s green master plan, which aims to ensure the sustainable use of the island’s land, encompassing nature, agriculture, and development.
During their visit to Brundby Stubmølle, one of Denmark’s remaining post mills, the royal couple met with Mayor Marcel Meijer, falconer Louise Vedel, landowner Jens Kristian Kjeldahl, and biologist Knud Tybirk, who provided insights into the plan’s development.
Samsø has a long history of pioneering the green transition. The island was designated as Denmark’s renewable energy island in 1997 and achieved self-sufficiency in renewable energy within a decade.
King Frederik has emphasized his commitment to supporting the green transition throughout his reign.
