Silkeborg coach Kent Nielsen is shifting his focus to the upcoming cup final against FC Copenhagen, set to take place at MCH Arena in Herning on Thursday. He anticipates a festive atmosphere for the expected 12,000 attendees.
Nielsen had previously expressed his preference for playing the final at Parken in Copenhagen, a sentiment he still holds. However, he now wants to move past the location debate and concentrate on the game itself.
He highlighted that the preference for Parken has been a widely shared opinion among head coaches and captains since the semi-final against Brøndby. Silkeborg director Kent Madsen had previously stated the unfeasibility of moving the final to Parken, as Brøndby Stadion was also not an option.
Nielsen emphasized that the decision regarding the location was made long ago, at the start of the tournament. He believes the focus should have been on the matter much earlier.
The reason FC Copenhagen fans cannot attend Brøndby Stadion is due to concerns about fan unrest, with the police anticipating potential trouble. Nielsen regrets that the location issue continues to overshadow what should be a celebration of football.
He acknowledged that the decision to hold the final outside of Parken was made at the beginning of the season from a “football political point of view” by the Danish Football Association (DBU) and the Divisionsforeningen. He reiterated that he would prefer to play in Parken but wants the focus to be on the game.
