Nina Palesa Bonde, a judge and debater, was verbally abused at the Roskilde Festival by a group of young women who accused her of supporting Israel’s actions in Gaza. The incident involved accusations of contributing to the killing of children and included being spat on.
The incident occurred while Bonde was with friends, including B.T.’s Middle East correspondent Jotam Confino, at a beer bar. The confrontation began after Bonde offered a young woman a peace pin featuring both Israeli and Palestinian flags, symbolizing coexistence.
The young woman’s companions then allegedly began to insult Bonde, calling her a supporter of genocide, a Zionist, a child murderer, and a pig. Confino, who witnessed the event, confirmed Bonde’s account.
Confino also reported a similar experience at the festival, where someone shouted “free Palestine” and “fuck you” at him. Additionally, a video circulated showing someone placing a sticker of the Palestinian flag on his back.
Roskilde Festival has responded to the incidents, stating they do not accept threats or degrading language toward anyone, regardless of the cause they represent. Deputy Director Christina Bilde emphasized the festival’s commitment to being a safe and respectful place for people with different opinions and backgrounds.
Bonde expressed her disappointment with the incident, stating that she does not want Denmark to become a place where people stand on opposite sides and scream at each other. She emphasized that disagreement with her views should not justify mistreatment.
While Bonde acknowledges the pain surrounding the conflict, she believes it should not lead to people treating each other badly. She mentioned the prevalence of Palestinian activism at the festival, contrasting it with the lack of space for Israeli voices.
