Journalist Matilde Kimer Receives the Publicist Award 2025

Matilde Kimer, a journalist known for her coverage of Russia and Ukraine, was awarded the Publicist Award 2025 at a ceremony in Copenhagen on Tuesday evening. The Danish Publicist Club, which presents the annual award, recognized Kimer’s significant contribution to Danish media.

The award acknowledges Kimer’s “long-standing and persistent work as a communicator of the inner life of Russia and Ukraine – and their significance for Europe and Denmark,” according to the Danish Publicist Club. Jesper Jürgensen, chairman of the club, praised Kimer’s journalistic instincts and ability to translate complex situations into relatable stories. He emphasized her ability to discern important narratives from mere “noise.”

Kimer has been with DR, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, since 2005 and has served as a correspondent focusing on Russia and Ukraine since 2014.

Two other individuals were nominated for this year’s Publicist Award: vicar and publicist Sørine Gotfredsen, and journalist and co-founder of Zetland, Lea Korsgaard.

In addition to the Publicist Award, the Documentary Award was presented to journalists Jens Beck Nielsen and Christian Birk from Berlingske for their series “Criminal Clans.” A special honorary award was also given to Hans Engell, a political commentator and former editor-in-chief of Ekstra Bladet, for his extensive career in Danish media.

The Danish Publicist Club, established in 1880, is Denmark’s oldest press association. The club presents publicistic prizes annually and organizes debates and events for journalists. This year’s jury included prominent figures from various Danish media outlets, including Berlingske, DR, Weekendavisen, Politiken, Ekstra Bladet, and Jyllands-Posten, as well as representatives from the Danish Publicist Club.

The Publicist Award has been awarded every year since 1979.
