Ivan Prelec is back as the head coach of Vejle Boldklub, expressing excitement about the upcoming season after a period of significant changes at the club. His return marks a new chapter following his resignation last year and the subsequent securing of Superliga survival by the team.
Prelec acknowledges the transformed environment at Vejle, highlighting changes ranging from ownership to the sports sector. He emphasizes the newfound alignment among everyone involved regarding the club’s goals and direction.
The club has welcomed two new assistant coaches: Morten Bisgaard from FCK and Marijo Jovic from Norwegian football. Steffen Kielstrup has also returned to his assistant role after successfully leading the team to survival last spring.
Prelec also noted that the change in ownership, with local investors taking over from Andrew Zolotko, has brought stability. He believes that the previous ownership situation, with ongoing attempts to sell the club, made it difficult to establish a clear direction.
According to Prelec, he feels that he has unfinished business at Vejle. He recognizes the need for fresh energy in the locker room during his previous departure.
Sporting director Mikkel Hemmersam’s arrival has significantly impacted Prelec, who has been involved in player acquisitions, including Andrew Hjulsager, Mikkel Duelund, Christian Sørensen, Lasse Nielsen and Wahid Faghir. He emphasizes that the club is now targeting specific player profiles that fit their desired style of play.
Despite his return, Prelec indicates a potential shift in playing style, stating that the team now has different tools at its disposal.
Looking ahead, Prelec is eager for the season opener against Randers. He acknowledges the challenge posed by the established Randers team but focuses on implementing the team’s practiced strategies and assessing their current level of performance.
