Investigation of Unexploded Mines from World War II at Høje Knolde Strand

The Danish Nature Agency is currently conducting an investigation at Høje Knolde Strand on Skallingen near Blåvand this week to assess the risk of unexploded mines from World War II. The beach and access road from the parking lot are closed from Monday to Friday during the investigation.

Høje Knolde Strand, the first beach upon entering Skallingen, was not included in the major mine clearance operation that declared most of Skallingen mine-free in 2012. The area was initially declared cleared by German soldiers in 1945.

However, a number of mines have resurfaced in the area in recent years. As the landowner and manager of the area, the Danish Nature Agency is responsible for undertaking a technical investigation into the potential mine risk.
