Copenhagen Municipality will conduct a thorough investigation of its technical systems following the arrest of a former employee. The individual is accused of misusing the CPR register to obtain information potentially used in planning murders linked to gang activity.
The decision to investigate was announced by Employment and Integration Mayor Jens-Kristian Lütken. The mayor emphasized the importance of identifying and addressing any vulnerabilities in the system. The matter will be brought before the finance committee for further review.
The National Unit for Special Crime (NSK) revealed the arrest of a 27-year-old former municipal employee. The charges against him include complicity in attempted murder and other serious crimes.
NSK alleges that the man exploited his prior access to the CPR register to illicitly search for personal information, including addresses of specific individuals.
Mayor Lütken stated that he is unaware of the specific position the former employee held within the municipality. He explained that his own administration has a system in place that flags searches for citizens without a legitimate case file. While the mayor has not been informed of any such incidents within his administration, he cannot definitively rule them out.
