Intelligence Services Offer Assistance to Ahmed Samsam in Terrorism Conviction Case

The Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET) and the Defense Intelligence Service (FE) are now offering assistance to Ahmed Samsam, who was convicted of terrorism in Spain. This development follows a Supreme Court ruling that compels the intelligence services to acknowledge their cooperation with Samsam during his trips to Syria.

PET and FE have contacted Samsam’s lawyer through the State Attorney to discuss the next steps in the legal process in Spain and how they can contribute to it.

Samsam’s cooperation with FE and PET occurred during his visits to Syria in 2013 and 2014. He was arrested in Spain in June 2017 and subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison in 2018 for allegedly joining the Islamic State.

During his trial in Spain, Samsam claimed he fought alongside Syrian rebels, not the Islamic State. He also testified that PET and FE recruited him after his initial trip to Syria.

Despite these claims, the intelligence services initially refused to acknowledge their involvement, leading to Samsam’s conviction in Spain. He is now seeking to have his case reopened.
