Insurance Companies Receive Fewer Damage Reports Than Expected After Recent Heavy Rainfall

Danish insurance companies are reporting fewer damage claims than initially anticipated following recent heavy rainfall across the country. Despite warnings of dangerous and very dangerous weather conditions over the past two days, the feared widespread flooding and related damages did not fully materialize.

Topdanmark, If, and GF Forsikring have collectively received approximately 460 reports of damage stemming from the rainfall on Monday and Tuesday.

Helene Vogt Ibsen, head of housing at If and Topdanmark, stated that the number of reports received was significantly lower than expected considering the severity of the weather warnings.

Martin Rundager, director of Claims Assistance at GF Forsikring, echoed this sentiment, noting that the company was prepared for a higher volume of damage claims.

Despite the lower-than-expected initial reports, insurance companies anticipate a rise in claims over the coming days. Late reports are expected as people return home from vacations and discover damage, particularly water in basements.
