Increased Tourist Overnight Stays in April Due to Easter

Denmark experienced a 21 percent surge in tourist overnight stays in April 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, according to Statistics Denmark. This increase is largely attributed to Easter falling in April this year, a period known for heightened tourist activity.

Excluding the Easter effect, the number of tourist overnight stays in April 2025 remained consistent with April 2024. The total number of overnight stays across hotels, holiday centers, campsites, hostels, and holiday homes reached 5.2 million in April 2025.

The data also indicates a one percent rise in future bookings, translating to an additional 2,800 booked stays for 2024. The hotel sector particularly benefited from the Easter influx, achieving a record number of bookings for April.

According to Horesta, the rise in tourist overnight stays is primarily driven by German visitors. Historically, Sweden and Norway were the dominant foreign markets for Danish hotels in April.

However, the chief economist at Horesta, Jonas Kjær, notes that while Easter boosted tourist numbers, there was a corresponding decrease in business travelers. Kjær explains that business travelers typically spend more and occupy more rooms due to solo travel.
