Sales of alcohol-free beer in Denmark are on the rise, continuing into 2025 after a significant increase in recent years. Last year, over nine million liters of alcohol-free beer were sold, representing an 8.7 percent increase compared to the previous year, according to the Danish Brewers’ Association.
This surge in popularity is part of a global trend, with worldwide sales rising by nine percent in 2024. The analysis firm IWSR anticipates similar growth rates for the next five years.
The Danish Brewers’ Association attributes the growth to improved brewing technology and a wider variety of options. Brewers are now producing better-tasting alcohol-free beers, meeting a strong consumer demand.
Initially, the primary consumers of alcohol-free beer in Denmark were individuals aged 35 and over, particularly men in larger cities. However, younger adults in their 20s are increasingly contributing to the rising sales.
Smaller breweries have also joined the trend, expanding the availability of alcohol-free beer options in stores. The number of different alcohol-free beers offered by members of the Danish Brewers’ Association has increased from 68 last year to over 100. Major breweries such as Carlsberg and Royal Unibrew are among the association’s members.
