Increased Efforts to Protect Women from Partner Violence and Femicide Urged by Justice Minister

The Danish government is being urged to enhance its efforts to protect women from surveillance, threats, and persecution by current or former partners. Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard emphasized the need for broader and deeper intervention to support women at risk.

As part of the latest police agreement, specialized teams were established to proactively identify and intervene in families where domestic violence could escalate to femicide. Hummelgaard believes these efforts should be expanded to reach more at-risk women and families.

These specialized teams possess unique training in handling stalking and psychological violence cases. Furthermore, the recent penal reform introduced a trial program using reverse ankle monitors. These devices alert authorities if an individual violates a restraining order by approaching the protected person.

Looking ahead, Hummelgaard stated that the upcoming police agreement negotiations will focus on strengthening investigative measures within the police force to address these cases more effectively from the outset.
