Ida Karstoft Undergoes Another Surgery and Faces Setback in Comeback

Danish sprinter Ida Karstoft, holder of the national records in the 100 and 200 meters, has experienced a setback in her return to competition after undergoing a second surgery in less than a year. The 29-year-old athlete announced the news on Instagram, expressing her disappointment and heartbreak.

Karstoft was already in rehabilitation following a major Achilles tendon surgery last year, which had been addressing a long-standing issue. Despite aiming for a comeback this summer, she has now encountered a new obstacle.

For the past three months, Karstoft has been dealing with heel problems. After receiving the message that she will need another operation she expressed how shocked she was.

The recent surgery addressed inflammation in the area, with doctors removing an inflamed bursa and stitches from the previous operation. According to Karstoft, the procedure went smoothly and as anticipated, with the bone and Achilles tendon appearing healthy.

Karstoft, who transitioned to athletics in 2016 after a football career, achieved a significant milestone in 2022 by winning a bronze medal at the European Championships. She has not competed since the Olympics last year.

She is now back in Denmark to focus on recovery and rebuilding, emphasizing her determination to overcome this challenge. Despite the setback, Karstoft remains hopeful and determined to return to the track.
