Housing Market Shows Strong Activity in Denmark

Denmark’s housing market continues to show strong activity with a high number of property transactions, particularly for apartments, and rising prices are expected to continue.

While property transactions experienced a minor dip in June, after May saw the highest figures since June 2021, seasonally adjusted figures show a slight increase. Compared to June of the previous year, there has been a 19 percent rise in transactions.

Lisette Rosenbeck, a senior economist at Arbejdernes Landsbank, indicates that there is no immediate sign of a slowdown in the housing market. Apartment sales have been particularly brisk, with over 30 percent more transactions in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year.

A total of 49,464 homes were sold in the first six months of 2025, a figure only exceeded in 2021 during the coronavirus lockdowns. Birgit Daetz, Communications Director and Housing Economist at Boligsiden, notes that Danes have a strong desire for new homes, and favorable economic conditions are enabling many to fulfill their housing aspirations. Increased trading activity is contributing to the recent price increases in the housing market.

Over the past year, the price per square meter for houses has increased by 5.4 percent, while apartments have become 11 percent more expensive. Holiday homes are two percent more expensive compared to June of the previous year.

Arbejdernes Landsbank anticipates that trading activity will remain high and prices will continue to rise. They forecast a 4 percent increase in house prices and a 6 percent increase in apartment prices for the current year.
