Danish national handball team player Louise Burgaard is pregnant and expecting her first child with her husband in January. The Odense Håndbold player announced the news in an Instagram post, stating she will miss a significant portion of the upcoming season.
Burgaard, 32, expressed her intention to support her Odense Håndbold teammates from off the court during the initial part of the season. She hopes to return to the court later in the season to contribute to their pursuit of further titles.
Despite the pregnancy, Burgaard maintains strong ambitions with both her club and the national team. She is motivated to return to the sport in top form after giving birth.
Having debuted in 2011, the right back has been a key player for the Danish national handball team for many years.
Burgaard rejoined Danish handball and Odense in 2024 after a five-year stint with Metz in France. Last season, she played a crucial role in Odense’s victory in the Danish Championship and their journey to the Champions League final. Her career also includes playing for Holstebro, Viborg, and FC Midtjylland.
